Beta Alpha Lambda Chapter was established in Jersey City, New Jersey, on March 23, 1936, with the ceremony being conducted by Brother Farrow R. Allen, Eastern Vice President. The original charter members were Brothers William H. Branch, William J. Carpenter, Charles W. Carter, John B. Frazier, Euclid P. Ghee, L. Keith Madison, Frederick W. Martin, Richard L. Martin, Isaiah Oliver, and James O. Randolph.
On June 27, 1999, Beta Alpha Lambda was rechartered by thirteen alumni brothers in Baltimore, Maryland. The founding members of the rechartered chapter are Brothers Frederick Banks, Melvin E. Bayne Jr., Jock Blackwell, Mark A. Branch, Art M. Henry, John W. Henry III, Anthony Hill, Demitri A. McDaniel, Scott Nelson, Darnell Rumph, Joseph Simms, J. Blaine Somerville III, and Darrel Thompson.
A rechartering ceremony heralded the renaissance of our chapter at the Fraternity’s Corporate Headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. Proclaimed, “Beta Alpha Lambda Day”, by Baltimore Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke, the ceremony marked a new era in the Chapter’s history. The new Beta Alpha Lambda Brothers serve the greater Baltimore community through national programs such as Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College, A Voteless People is a Hopeless People, March of Dimes Walk America, and a variety of new and innovative programs.
Our first community service program was held at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. We conducted an informal, yet informative, panel discussion with incoming freshmen about the challenges of the college experience. Morgan State University holds a special place in the hearts of Beta Alpha Lambda Brothers. Twelve of our initial members were initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. through Morgan State University’s undergraduate Beta Alpha chapter.
Our chapter meetings are usually held monthly. For the latest information, please contact the chapter by email (info@apa-bal.org).
